  • 89% of people prefer to live close to their workplace.
  • According to a GCE study, Yucatán is one of the states with the best quality of life and the safest.

Moving can be challenging, especially if you have to relocate to another state or country, even when a change of scenery and stepping out of your comfort zone is necessary. Whether you plan a short stay or intend to stay for life, you must meticulously choose the place where you will settle.

Factors such as climate, transportation, or location determine the costs and facilities for buying or renting a property. However, according to the specialized site Inmuebles 24, the most considered factor, by 89%, when changing residence is the proximity to the workplace. Moreover, 52% prefer to buy an apartment rather than a house because the cost tends to rise when it comes to a larger space.

Whether for work, health, or starting a new life, if you want to move to another state of the Republic without breaking the bank, Coldwell Banker Mexico presents the five cheapest states to live in.

  • Tlaxcala: Tlaxcala tops this list due to its low property purchase prices, ranging from 380 thousand pesos for an apartment to 1 million 290 thousand pesos for a house, approximately. It is also a great option if you don’t plan to settle completely, as rents are around 4 thousand pesos, and it is only two hours from Mexico City, allowing you to visit family or commute for work without any problems.
  • Hidalgo: The capital of pastes ranks second, as it is a tourist-rich area with many sites to visit. Buying a house can cost you less than two million pesos, and an apartment is around half a million. Compared to the capital city’s prices, they are significantly lower, considering also the natural attractions, job opportunities, and the expanding transportation network.
  • Colima: Despite being a very hot state, Colima has many advantages that make it a good option to live in, such as the quality of education, services, healthcare, and clean air, thanks to industries being far from the urban area. Its beautiful beaches and natural spaces also stand out. Housing costs vary greatly, ranging from half a million to nearly eight million pesos.
  • Yucatán: According to the latest “The Most Livable Cities in Mexico” study by the Strategic Communication Cabinet in 2019, Yucatán is one of the most recommended states to live in, being the safest in the Mexican Republic, one of the least expensive, and having one of the best qualities of life. Additionally, the tourist influx greatly benefits businesses and generates jobs.
  • Tamaulipas: Last but not least, Tamaulipas is very close to the United States. Although it is farther from the country’s center, it has had significant industrial growth due to the establishment of large multinational corporations, providing many job opportunities. If you are considering costs, a house is around one and a half million, while an apartment is approximately 800 thousand pesos.

These are the five most economical states, and while each has its advantages over the others, the decision is yours. Now that you know a bit more about the options, choosing might be easier, but as we always say, thoroughly inform yourself first, consult options with a real estate advisor, and consider all your needs.
